Fenris is an elf of Thedas, a former slave, and a formidable warrior. He has been unplugged for little more than a month, and he's still trying to get his bearings. Although he's accepted the general mind-altering premise, he also has to contend with his 'new' human body. Though he remains relatively slender and lithe, he's found some discrepancies between his experience of the world as an elf vs. a human. Specifically, he's not always the master of his equilibrium; furthermore, his eyesight and hearing don't feel quite the same, either.

Despite this, Fenris is doing as well as can be expected. He's lost the living magic that once infused his body, and he's (usually) glad of it. He's eager to learn new skills, any new skills, though he's started with the basics: reading. From there, Fenris would like to learn more about mastering this world's weaponry, and perhaps join the Zion Defense Grid.

In conversation he's wary and gruff, but not intentionally hostile. Like many others, the transition from what he knew to what he knows now has left him with some heavy psychological baggage. In his case, it's a matter of identity--something he struggled with even before the revelation that his world was a carefully constructed lie.

Let me just sum up Hawke with the fact that he introduces himself to a total stranger in need of aid by telling her not to worry, as "helping people and killing people are what I'm best at." Gregarious, high energy, and brimming with sarcasm, while he's is genuinely invested in helping the individual the greater good is something he'll only engage with if you force him. (Although canonically that happens every time he turns around, which is how he both earned an official title as protector of his city and incited UHHHH a world-wide rebellion, nbd.)

He comes from a Matrix where magical ability is a] genetic and b] incredibly complicated for theological and political reasons. Mages are, legally speaking, supposed to be part of an organization that is ostensibly meant to protect and guide them, and while it sometimes does manage that oppression and abuse are as much, if not more common. Coping without magic and without centering his identity around apostasy is proving to be uh, challenging. He is dealing primarily via the liberal application of sassbaskerty, which sometimes helps, sometimes less so. A world without magic is one where 75% of the abilities he prided himself on don't exist; since his recovery he's been working to correct that imbalance.
