Katniss was probably even more disoriented than most after her extraction. Unable to commit suicide, she instead sees this as a way out, and believes that it’s likely simply a trick coming from those who were loyal to Coin trying to kill her.

Instead, she comes face to face with a world that has suffered through a great war, not so different from her own. She is incredibly hostile to those around her at first, and it takes a great deal of time and therapy before she can function properly. She finds a strange comfort in the fact that she can put the violence she’s caused as a hallucination, though she still has intense nightmares and calls for her sister and Peeta in her sleep.

Eventually, though, she beings to collect herself, starts to talk to people, makes a few friends. She ends up finding a job with a mechanic, and learns while on the job. She proves to be a quick learner and very resourceful and hard-working. While she still has a tough exterior, she doesn’t immediately push away anyone who tries to get to know her, and she’s doesn’t dread each day.

Though originally against the idea of joining the defence grid, Katniss eventually begins to see this place as her home, and is starting to consider joining up as a hovercraft mechanic, though it will take a comforting hand in order to push her to put her combat experience into action as an operative, despite the fact that she would probably be very good at it.

Max Rockatansky is a man of many regrets. In his Matrix these were simple enough to manage: the persistent inability to reconcile himself with the brutal, violent deaths of nearly anyone he's ever cared about only ever drove him mad. Here in Zion, things have become more complicated. The constant struggle for mere survival that had characterized the world he knew has given way to enough leisure as to allow for moralistic dilemmas, problems which cannot be solved via normal methods: shoot it, or drive away.

The scant months Max has spent in the city may not have been sufficient as to allow him to come to terms with his decision to leave the Matrix, but all the same, he has slowly begun to integrate himself — more or less — into his neighborhood, establishing himself with a modest trade as a rather clever, skilled mechanic, noted in particular for his ability to work with limited resources and for his ability to improvise, remnants of his life before extraction. Still, the nagging questions remain, and the longer they pursue him, pressing up against other old wounds, the less he is able to convince himself that he can permit himself to remain uninvolved.

Still, for the time being Max is a reserved man, economical with his words as with any other resource available to him. It, along with a learned mistrust, gives him the impression of being somewhat uncomfortable in his own skin — which, of course, he now is, though to a lesser degree than he is simply uncomfortable with circumstances at large. Still, it would be far from inapt to say that he wants to run from himself as much as his growing complacency: it's all he's done for most of his life. Now there's no wasteland that's viable to wander and no set of wheels to speed him on his way, he's having to reprioritize — though in many ways he has it easier than most. He's already lived a life at the end of one world.

According to his matrix Varric's a surface dwarf born and raised in Kirkwall, Thedas. He's a renowned author, one time companion and best friend to the famed Champion of Kirkwall, and proud owner of chest hair. He makes friends and networks as easy as breathing, but sorry ladies and gents. He's in a committed relationship with his crossbow and tbh isn't all that into humans.

Which is awkward. Seeing as he apparently actually is one.

Varric's been unplugged for about a month now and is still getting used to things. Things like the lack of magic, completely alien technology, and a sudden boost in height. Hello, permanent concussions. You're just what he always wanted.

Kitty Jones/Lizzie Temple/Clara Bell/Alice Fitzwilliam/whatever lie she feeds you was born a commoner - a non-magician in a magician-dominated society. A strong sense of justice, as well as a collusion of unfortunate circumstances, set her early on a path of violent resistance to the tyrannical rulers of her country. However, just before her extraction, her resistance group was destroyed and she was declared a wanted criminal and terrorist - a charge that carries with it a very unpleasant death.

She's been in the real world for three months now and has been biding her time, regaining her strength and learning all she can. Her paranoia still runs high: she doesn't trust that the magicians in her Matrix wouldn't have informants outside of it, so she's careful not to give her real name or give her true identity away. But already, even after this short time, her impatience for real change, for an improvement in the lives of her people, is starting to rear its head. She's starting to poke her nose where it doesn't necessarily belong, starting to investigate what resources there are out here for overthrowing a tyrannical imperial government in there.

In her job as a waitress at Restaurant Modak - a little cafe that serves pretty decent processed-protein burgers and has elephants all over all the walls - she's outgoing, friendly, and cheerful. She goes by the name Lizzie, serves sandwiches with bustling efficiency, and remembers the names of all her regular customers. Outside of work, she's a rather different person: quiet, watchful, mistrustful. Hard to recognize as the same girl.

She's smart, canny, and has a fierce hunger to learn. A little bit of knowledge only whets that thirst - giving her scraps of information will just bring her back, harder and hungrier than before. Her energy is a force to be reckoned with, and she is intense. If you're a mage, prepare to earn her enmity - at least until she grows up a little bit. If you're someone who genuinely cares about justice, prepare to earn her deep respect and admiration. And if you're someone who can be useful to her cause...

Up until like right now, Rocket has been an inhabitant of the pirate city of Irkalla. They used to tell him they'd unplugged him as a joke. In his Matrix, Rocket had been a criminal with a record, a pilot, an engineer, a bounty hunter... and damn raccoon. The raccoon part was the joke. Hilarious.

Four years later, and Rocket has carved out a place for himself in Irkalla under his callsign, Stripes. (Not his choice. Also a joke. Ha ha ha.) He's taught himself the technological ropes in the Real, and earned his reputation as a tech expert, building and suping up existing parts, components, and weapons for pirate captains eager to get an edge on the competition. Piloting and smuggling have been side projects.

But Rocket has more recently earned the ire of pirate Captian Olaus of the Naglfar, and has decided to seek his fortune elsewhere--at least long enough for shit to cool off back home in Irkalla. In Zion, he's going under his real ("real") name, and he's started working on small tech projects, mostly for under-the-table cash. A raccoon don't change his stripes, as the saying goes. Whatever a raccoon is.

please note: he still resembles a damn raccoon back in the Matrix.

Lily was grew up in an underground fallout shelter called a Vault and lived there until her father James mysteriously disappeared. When she followed after him, escaping the overbearing and isolationist vault overseer, she discovered the world outside was an irradiated, blasted wasteland, with civilization centered into a few small towns. While initially focusing only on tracking down her father, she gradually began to expand her focus, helping people along the way and in some cases improving or securing hubs of civilization. After questioning several people around the wastes she finally locates her father, who tells her about her mother and the water purification project they'd worked on together, in the ruins of the Jefferson Memorial.

They'd not been back at work long when the purifier was overtaken by the remains of the United States government, now calling themselves the Enclave. James was killed in the takeover and Lily guided the remaining scientists to the stronghold of a group called the Brotherhood of Steel, an organization dedicated to preserving the technology of the old world and who had provided assistance to James in the past.

From there, her main two focuses were locating a piece of equipment needed to finish work on the purifier and the defeat of the Enclave. The Brotherhood pointed her in the direction of an old Vault to pick it up, but she was intercepted by the Enclave's Colonel Autumn knocking her out with a flash grenade and sending the equipment off with his soldiers to install themselves. Back at the Enclave's headquarters she's interrogated briefly, then released with an order from the Enclave's robotic President Eden: sabotage the purifier. Luckily Eden makes absolutely no effort to ensure that she actually does this, especially after she manages to talk it into blowing itself up, and with the help of a Brotherhood-built giant robot named Liberty Prime they take back the purifier, do away with Colonel Autumn, and provide free, clean water to the whole of the Capital Wasteland.

Lily had many more small adventures before being approached by an operative, and in her two years since unplugging has made a niche for herself as an enterprising thief and doctor, claiming several abandoned rooms down in the very bottom of Zion's habitable district. Her clinic, named the Warren Clinic, treats those who for one reason or another can't get time with a "respectable" doctor and runs on donations and her own 'borrowed' spoils.

Unfortunately, the path the group wanted to take was to destroy the outer world and all its inhabitants, then recreate the continents and the population using a magitek called fomicry, which could replicate any kind of matter, living or otherwise. They accepted Saphir into their ranks because he could build fomicry machines, but eventually they were brought down by a group which included a friend of Saphir's from childhood, who had initially invented fomicry itself. Saphir was the only one of the radicals left alive by the time it was over, and was imprisoned indefinitely before being unplugged.

Dorian Pavus was unplugged from one of the several iterations of Thedas, in the year 9:41 Dragon - a world steeped in dark age-esque magic, mythology, and a sort of swords and sorcery theme widespread. Born as heir apparent to a seat on the Magesterium in the Tevinter Imperium, Dorian was raised in comfortable wealth, given the best education, training and resources that money could afford, advancing him to the position of Altus mage - the upper class rank within a nation ruled by mages. Magic has been something as natural to Dorian as breathing, and since being unplugged, he's experienced considerable difficulty adjusting to the lack of it in the Real World.

The man seems to hardly ever take anything seriously, despite how much he puts into his work. He can most likely be found engaging in or inciting some form or nonsense or another, and heard from entire sectors away, considering the man could make an art of yammering if allowed to go on long enough. Despite shenanigans and more obnoxious personality traits, he is friendly, amiable, and seeks to both understand and master all things unfamiliar to him, making his dedication to his work exceptional.

During his now seven months in Zion, Dorian's committed his time and energy towards making himself of some use, training himself in mechanics and chemical innovation, for the creation of technologies, materials and mixtures to assist in offense, defense and medicine. While he can regularly be found in districts devoted to crafting and trade, Dorian can also be hunted down at the sim stations, probably plugged into something involving magic, dragons and very silky sheets.

William's Matrix is an iteration of Earth ruled by space-age science and built on an eerie mystical bedrock that is poorly understood by humans. It was the site of an unusual neurological experiment conducted by the Machines, which was perhaps the primary if not the only reason he was extracted 4 years ago. The truth is, he isn't very smart or particularly talented at anything that would get him gainfully employed, or real status among the elite of Zion. His only boon, the byproduct of surgical and chemical alteration pre-extraction, is his photographic memory-- at the cost of being utterly, irremediably blind to Matrix code.

These days, he is engaged primarily in sex work +/- a little socialite activity. He has a 'semi-exclusive' arrangement with one of the bigger import-export merchantry moguls of the city, Nero Jumane, who frequently engages the services of the Zion Defense Grid and other hovercrews for transport. William also bangs other people for trade, plans parties, drinks heavily, and gets ripped off at the bazaar regularly. Notably, he occasionally moonlights aboard the Shangrila and other ships as an operative, utilizing his memory. He likes to help the newly unplugged find their way around.

Let me just sum up Hawke with the fact that he introduces himself to a total stranger in need of aid by telling her not to worry, as "helping people and killing people are what I'm best at." Gregarious, high energy, and brimming with sarcasm, while he's is genuinely invested in helping the individual the greater good is something he'll only engage with if you force him. (Although canonically that happens every time he turns around, which is how he both earned an official title as protector of his city and incited UHHHH a world-wide rebellion, nbd.)

He comes from a Matrix where magical ability is a] genetic and b] incredibly complicated for theological and political reasons. Mages are, legally speaking, supposed to be part of an organization that is ostensibly meant to protect and guide them, and while it sometimes does manage that oppression and abuse are as much, if not more common. Coping without magic and without centering his identity around apostasy is proving to be uh, challenging. He is dealing primarily via the liberal application of sassbaskerty, which sometimes helps, sometimes less so. A world without magic is one where 75% of the abilities he prided himself on don't exist; since his recovery he's been working to correct that imbalance.

Fenris is an elf of Thedas, a former slave, and a formidable warrior. He has been unplugged for little more than a month, and he's still trying to get his bearings. Although he's accepted the general mind-altering premise, he also has to contend with his 'new' human body. Though he remains relatively slender and lithe, he's found some discrepancies between his experience of the world as an elf vs. a human. Specifically, he's not always the master of his equilibrium; furthermore, his eyesight and hearing don't feel quite the same, either.

Despite this, Fenris is doing as well as can be expected. He's lost the living magic that once infused his body, and he's (usually) glad of it. He's eager to learn new skills, any new skills, though he's started with the basics: reading. From there, Fenris would like to learn more about mastering this world's weaponry, and perhaps join the Zion Defense Grid.

In conversation he's wary and gruff, but not intentionally hostile. Like many others, the transition from what he knew to what he knows now has left him with some heavy psychological baggage. In his case, it's a matter of identity--something he struggled with even before the revelation that his world was a carefully constructed lie.

It was in a galaxy far, far away where Luke rose from farmboy on a dusty, backwater planet to a Jedi Knight and hero of the Rebel Alliance. Luke defeated the Emperor and watched his father, the redeemed Anakin Skywalker, die in his arms while the rebels celebrated their victory and the beginnings of the Empire's downfall. It was bittersweet for him.

Raised by his aunt and uncle, Luke never knew his parents growing up. He'd always been told they died when he was very young, but the truth was that his father had turned to the dark side and one of the greatest villains the galaxy had ever seen. It was Luke's destiny to become a Jedi and bring balance to the Force. He did so, but only after discovering his family's dark secrets.

Along the way he made a valuable addition to the Alliance's elite starfighter squadron, destroying the Empire's first Death Star, a battle station of devastating destructive power. He was recognized as a hero and soon formed Rogue Squadron as commander, with Wedge Antilles as his second-in-command. Luke went on to become the greatest fighter pilot of the rebellion, and even held an esteemed position of leadership.

His Jedi powers gave him many super-human abilities, both mental and physical, and they even served as his support system. He could call on the Force to calm his emotions, for wisdom, and for comfort. Without it he's had to backtrack to a more primal state of mind and he's lost a bit of himself along the way.

Luke has only been in the Real for a short period of time and his transition has been very rough. He's pushed himself hard in his extraction recovery and he has been difficult to deal with socially. Though he's showed interest in piloting hovercraft, Luke has been hesitant to forget his former life. He has held tightly to his memories and he believes they've made him who he is even outside the Matrix. Without them he's no one.

Jack Sparrow is maybe a little bit out of his league.

Of all the people who have been unplugged, you have to ask yourself, why Jack Sparrow? Why unplug someone whose matrix was set so far back in time that he looks around the Real World with a mix of apprehension and worry? The 1700s were a long time ago, even for most Modern Day Matrices, let alone the Real World.

But time periods don't have anything to do with capabilities and Jack Sparrow is more than capable. His people skills and his leadership skills are on point, he's charming he's charismatic... he's manipulative and calculating and apathetic and maybe just the tiniest bit of a kleptomaniac.

It hasn't been long since Jack has been unplugged. His short hair drives him crazy, as does the lack of muscle memory he's worked hard to gain over his 40 years in the Matrix. You may find him spending long periods of time training with swords and guns, tiptoeing c a r e f u l l y around any of the more "scarier" looking machines, and looking into regaining his title as Captain.
