Born in noncompliance with a single-child restriction law, Octavia spent her first fifteen years of life on the Ark orbital station containing what was assumed to be the last of humanity largely hidden under the floor of her family's quarters. When she was inadvertently revealed, she was sent to lock-up to await execution by airlock on her 18th birthday... but instead found salvation in an experimental drop to planet Earth, 100 condemned teens sent planetside to see if the radiation had decreased to survivable levels.
While she made plenty of allies among the 100, not to mention living under the protective eye of her brother Bellamy (who shot a man for the opportunity to follow her down), she didn't find any true sense of belonging until a man known as Lincoln opened her up to the world of the Grounders - descendants of those who managed to survive the nuclear bombs a century ago, who currently live a much more tribal and warlike lifestyle than the 100 were used to on the Ark.
Fast-forward a few weeks, and now she's the designated Second to Indra, the Chief of "Tondisi" (or '-ton D.C.', to put it more recognizably). She's undergone extensive training even already, beginning to strip away what's left of the naive butterfly-chasing Octavia of the past and leaving a sharp-eyed fighter in its wake. Though she was born in space and many of her people still call her 'sky girl', she's recognized more as a warrior each passing day. ...At least, in her own Matrix. Now that she's unplugged, she'll have to find that balance between Trigedakru warrior and someone who relatively fits in among the citizens of Zion... And come to terms with the fact that the only people she's ever truly felt like she belongs with are almost entirely fictional.
