| OLYMPUS: HACKING HARBINGER ◀ This is the second OOC plot post for the Sacking of Olympus plot, focusing on the Zion Defense Grid and civilian corps' effort to investigate and defeat the REAPER Machine force while they are jacked in. Most of this concerns the events of the firewall simulation. For more information on the activities and events taking place in the Real, please see the original plot post. ▼ NAVIGATIONOne By One: The Choice, OOC Requirements, etc., added 6/24/15 Battle Finale & Wrap-Up: Notes also added 6/24/15 ▶ THREE BY THREE( 3X3 AND HACKING CONCLUSION ) |
|
| THE SACKING OF OLYMPUS ◀ It starts out as an ordinary civilian business-and-supply run to a new colony, Olympus, only to meet with the sight of burning destruction. The city’s defenses are overrun by colossal machines unlike anything recorded in the history of Zion. ▼ TIMELINE- June 11: The Oracle raises a warning, causing the Council to increase production of war-time supplies and issue a general 'high alert' among human civilizations.
- June 16: Civilian crew reaches Olympus in the midst of a massive Machine assault, comms jammed. They dispatch call to Zion Defense Grid using atypical protocols, then discuss and reach consensus on interim operations (i.e., to hide or to help?)
- June 18: Zion Defense Grid reaches Olympus
- June 19: ETA of the arrival of machine Harbinger, and assaults on both structure and software begin (log may be posted earlier)

Freed from the Matrix three years ago, Blight spent a long time in a hospital after it was discovered that a sickness that had affected him in his Matrix was actually coding the machines placed in his mind. After intense treatment and testing, he was cleared for duty.
The programming in his head gives him the ability to download new skill sets at a faster speed, which makes him ideal for short term or recon missions. However, after spending more than a few hours in the Matrix, he starts to exhibit signs of his illness again.
When not on short term missions, he makes his way as a friendly but quiet technician, mostly focused on helping the average citizen live as comfortably as possible by fixing their appliances and air vents.
Most people don't know about the coding the machines put into his mind. Only the higher ranking officers of ships he may have served on and the doctors who worked on him know about it, and the information is largely considered classified.
To most people who know him, Blight is just a kind, friendly guy who tries to do his best for his neighbors but also mostly keeps to himself. He's nice enough, just prone to spend most of his time in his quarters unless on call.

Jack is 2 years unplugged, having started out as a ZDG operative specializing in cultural assimilation and in-matrix political maneuvering, until about a year ago when half his crew was killed in a Machine attack. Jack survived and was credited with some heroics in the process, but subsequently declined reassignment and switched tracks to politics.
Since then, Jack has been working as a political aide to Councillor Aries. He's known to be sort of flippantly charming but smarter than he looks, or at least better at playing the political game. He's newly returned to Zion after spending the last few months on diplomatic assignment in Antioch.

| Hey guys! This is Lauren. I'm afraid I'm going to be dropping Crowley for the time being so that I can focus on catching up with Arthur. I am most definitely still around with Arthur and working on catching up everywhere from being sick. Thanks so much for being patient. <3 |
|
| ▶ ACTIVITY CHECKPlease deposit your activity proofs here before 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday, May 31. We require threads with five log comments or ten network comments from each character; entries and top-levels count as one comment in the thread; action tags from the network community can count for your five log comments if desired. If you need an exemption, PM this account. If you have any questions, you can review the rules here or contact us for help. |

| Hey this is Lauren. Unfortunately, my string of getting sick one after another took a turn for the worse and I'm pretty sick right now. It will probably be a few days before I can get back to tags or start anything new.
This affects Crowley and Arthur. |
|
| Hi, Systemwide! I am going to be traveling out of state to participate in a friend's wedding, and while I am taking my laptop, tags will be at best slow for the next week. This goes from 5/18 to 5/25. If I'm needed more promptly, I'll be checking plurk and email (plus5vswords at gmail), so don't hesitate to reach out. Otherwise, see you all soon! Emily is autopiloted, so she'll be around IC, training and chatting and generally doing nothing of particular note. |
|
| ( You know nothing... )This post is mainly to provide structure and direction for thread starters. Feel free to plot with the comments, or ask questions. |

| ▶ SOCIAL: DRAGON BOATS▼ THE FESTIVALOn Tuesday, May 12th, William Tsang will be throwing a festival inspired by the Dragon Boat races. These will take place in the vast reservoirs of water on the Engineering level, the ‘course’ running one thousand yards long. Before and after the race, food, libations, and good sportsmanship serve to inaugurate the new agricultural rotation! Spiritual and social functions aside, the race is also incidentally timed to end with scheduled maintenance and cleanup of the reservoir.
Hovercrew team-building has repurposed the competitive team spirit! One of the races is slated to pit the ship crews against each other, give or take those who opt out and volunteers. As an OOC note, winners and rankings will be decided based on a dice roll and the number of years each team member has been unplugged.
Businesses within Zion have made friendly alliances to sponsor the crafting of these boats, as well as donating resources for prizes. It is certainly regarded as an economic opportunity for advertisement. All types of entrepreneurs, from noodle shops to mechanical repairpersons, are planning to make a showing. ▼ ANTI-CORRUPTIONAt the root of the Dragon Boat tradition, a legend speaks of protest against corruption, which is certainly a theme that pervades Zion as of late. Although some citizens may regard it as an expression of discontentment, the Council evidently knows better than to try to end dissent by shutting down the party. Instead, a few representatives are slated to appear and partake in the festivities, paying respects, and perhaps mixing work with a little play. ▶ HOUSEKEEPING▼ CR MEMEPlease don’t forget to check our CR meme. More players have added characters and comments over the past few days, including new applicants and freshly accepted characters. Be sure to revisit over the course of the next few days and build CR with fresh participants. ▼ RECRUITMENT DRIVEFollowing Commander Gwisin’s announcement, the Zion Defense Grid held a recruitment drive to replenish the ranks of hovercrews. The citizens of Zion (i.e., the players of Systemwide) rallied to the call, leading to the officiation (and re-officiation) of three new crews, serving: the Nidhoggr, the Phoenix and the Atalanta. Please find the new rosters in those links. Characters who were not recruited may still rotate through or sign onto the Shangrila to participate in missions. ▼ MISSION CONTROLOur latest major page addition can be found at Mission Control, which we invite you to check out. This page will be devoted to all plotting, big and small, that is ongoing. We encourage you to track elements of this page or check in frequently for updates, as we continue to add hooks to it. All major metaplot events will continue to be posted properly to the OOC community and announced on our modplurk, but smaller missions that may or may not have metaplot ties in them too will also feature here. We will also point to items in these monthly State of the Game posts.
This page also describes the sim stations, a plot device used for characters who wish to write cross-canon simulations that do not necessitate real Matrix entry or boarding a ship. These can be training exercises and skills uploads for upcoming missions or just in general, socialisation and experimentation, or simply finding a way to pass the time.
If you have any questions, let us know, but please, go nuts! ▼ PLAYER-RUN PLOT INCENTIVEThe mods would like to announce an incentive for player-run plots (i.e., Low Clearance Missions). If the mission meets certain qualifications, the player responsible for running (or starting) the thread will receive 1 Activity Check exemption. Players may store multiple exemptions indefinitely. To qualify, the thread must meet the following criteria:- The thread must have at least 5 tags from the plot-runner (may include the top-level post)
- The tags were posted within a 30-day period
- Remain consistent with the Low Clearance Mission parameters (i.e., risk level, little impact on the Matrix), although the specific objective of the mission is flexible
Should future problems arise (i.e., character squatting), this policy is subject to more limitations. ▼ MOD VACATIONOne of the mods, China, will be on vacation from May 21-31 and may be completely unavailable to fulfill her related duties. Afterward, her availability may become slightly spotty for a few weeks due to moving between states. Please be aware that aspects of game-running may become slightly delayed (e.g., FAQ responses), although all of our calendar dates remain as originally scheduled. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Activity Check will begin properly in the last week of May. ▶ KEY DATESActivity Check: May 24-31 Test Drive: Currently Open Reserves: Close on 31 May (4 PM, EST). Applications: Next round opens 26 May (4 PM, EST). |

Kitty Jones/Lizzie Temple/Clara Bell/Alice Fitzwilliam/whatever lie she feeds you was born a commoner - a non-magician in a magician-dominated society. A strong sense of justice, as well as a collusion of unfortunate circumstances, set her early on a path of violent resistance to the tyrannical rulers of her country. However, just before her extraction, her resistance group was destroyed and she was declared a wanted criminal and terrorist - a charge that carries with it a very unpleasant death.
She's been in the real world for three months now and has been biding her time, regaining her strength and learning all she can. Her paranoia still runs high: she doesn't trust that the magicians in her Matrix wouldn't have informants outside of it, so she's careful not to give her real name or give her true identity away. But already, even after this short time, her impatience for real change, for an improvement in the lives of her people, is starting to rear its head. She's starting to poke her nose where it doesn't necessarily belong, starting to investigate what resources there are out here for overthrowing a tyrannical imperial government in there.
In her job as a waitress at Restaurant Modak - a little cafe that serves pretty decent processed-protein burgers and has elephants all over all the walls - she's outgoing, friendly, and cheerful. She goes by the name Lizzie, serves sandwiches with bustling efficiency, and remembers the names of all her regular customers. Outside of work, she's a rather different person: quiet, watchful, mistrustful. Hard to recognize as the same girl.
She's smart, canny, and has a fierce hunger to learn. A little bit of knowledge only whets that thirst - giving her scraps of information will just bring her back, harder and hungrier than before. Her energy is a force to be reckoned with, and she is intense. If you're a mage, prepare to earn her enmity - at least until she grows up a little bit. If you're someone who genuinely cares about justice, prepare to earn her deep respect and admiration. And if you're someone who can be useful to her cause...

Up until like right now, Rocket has been an inhabitant of the pirate city of Irkalla. They used to tell him they'd unplugged him as a joke. In his Matrix, Rocket had been a criminal with a record, a pilot, an engineer, a bounty hunter... and damn raccoon. The raccoon part was the joke. Hilarious.
Four years later, and Rocket has carved out a place for himself in Irkalla under his callsign, Stripes. (Not his choice. Also a joke. Ha ha ha.) He's taught himself the technological ropes in the Real, and earned his reputation as a tech expert, building and suping up existing parts, components, and weapons for pirate captains eager to get an edge on the competition. Piloting and smuggling have been side projects.
But Rocket has more recently earned the ire of pirate Captian Olaus of the Naglfar, and has decided to seek his fortune elsewhere--at least long enough for shit to cool off back home in Irkalla. In Zion, he's going under his real ("real") name, and he's started working on small tech projects, mostly for under-the-table cash. A raccoon don't change his stripes, as the saying goes. Whatever a raccoon is.
please note: he still resembles a damn raccoon back in the Matrix.

Born and reared in the teeming corporate enclaves of TriOptimum Corporation, schooled in computer science and lifted up into the comparative affluence of research and development, Isabella was right at home in her native Matrix. Tasked with one of the most daunting projects of its time, the construction of a truly safe AI through carefully designed 'ethics architecture', she fancied herself on the way to a certain discreet fame as well as something of a fortune. She then discovered that it was all an illusion, a cruel joke played, ironically, by the very kind of AI she's spent her entire career trying preemptively to counteract.
Isabella has been unplugged for a little over a year now and, after a rocky first month of sluggish depression, has since adapted fairly well to Zion's economy and lifecycles. Already an accomplished programmer and computer scientist 'back home', she has made of point of becoming as fluent as possible in Matrix code; indeed, her chief contributions to Zion's community come in the form of improved training programs, as well as leisure simulations, particularly ones designed to evoke a specific, singular sensory experience, eg. the taste of coffee, the scent of flowers, the draw of a cigarette.
While nominally integrated, and suffering from none of the truly terminal symptoms of reality-rejection, she is less content in the waking world than she lets on. She copes with the loss of her world through elaborate ambition, and a certain preoccupation with the idea of 'reclaiming the surface' in a figurative if not strictly literal sense. Anything that might give humanity an edge over the machines is of interest to her; mere survival, mere truce, cannot suffice.

Gideon was unplugged roughly two years ago and was recovered and brought to the mining settlement of ANTIOCH. There he lived for two years- the first months were difficult, but he was finally able to leave behind Dorian Pavus, and now considers himself completely Gideon, separate from the things that loomed over him as Dorian, like the Pavus legacy and his mission to redeem Tevinter.
Gideon is an educator- and has been offered a chance to expand his career here in Zion. Not wanting to get bound to one place again, he's recently arrived and planning to settle in...but it would seem like there will be a few bumps along the way.
