SEASON OF MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD.
In the Hunan provence of China, Whitehall kidnapped and slaughtered Daisy's inhuman mother and cannibalized her organs to steal her longevity, sending her father, Dr. Calvin Zabo, into a murderous rampage. SHIELD agents discovered her alone there, labeled her an 084 (object of unknown origin), and shipped her into the foster system to protect her from the monster. SHIELD moved her from home to home, and she eventually shed the name "Mary Sue Poots" in favor of calling herself "Skye."
She uses her array of talents in the pursuit of what's just and fair. Growing up without a stable home life left Skye a free spirit, unbound to any one location, any one group, any one allegiance. She served herself and her own moral code. To her, the 'right thing' surrounds the idea of freedom of information. Where Lois Lane became a journalist, Skye became a hacker (well, hacktivist). She joined the Rising Tide to send a message, to become a revolutionary, and to fight The Man. This attitude carries forth well into her SHIELD career, and she doesn't seem to place much stock in rules or regulations, not exactly viewing herself superior to or outside of them, but rather not caring for the consequences that she brings on herself when disregarding them. She's willing to take the punishment to do what she perceives as right, and for Skye, that often means acting outside of the rulebook.
Quippy, sarcastic, and unapologetically exuberant and passionate, Skye makes a terrible agent because she's often impulsive and prioritizes her own judiciousness over the work of the agency. Skye is not some master manipulator like Ward and Romanoff, but she is a deeply empathic person who has a lot of understanding of how people work—especially lonely people, and those fighting for their families. This allows her to connect to people in a way that a bureaucratic giant might fail to. She survives the tragedy of her life by maintaining a carefree, easygoing, optimistic attitude, declaring cynicism "unhelpful." The exception rears its head in HYDRA, particularly when Ward is revealed to be one of them.
